Dr. Tony Smith  is a seasoned oil & gas industry professional with over 27 years experience. He has recognised and proven expertise in strategy development from both commercial and contractual perspective, and has extensive expertise across the supply chain for both oil and natural gas. 

Since 2001, Tony has been carrying out senior level consulting to the oil & gas industry and international business development for major IT companies servicing the industry. His hydrocarbons career began in 1981 when, immediately after completing his PhD, Tony joined BP where he extensively researched novel enhanced oil recovery technology in the North Sea.  He then joined Exxon in 1985 and for the next 16 years focussed primarily on the developing and liberalising Natural Gas market, covering a diverse mixture of upstream, midstream and downstream aspects. Tony had a leading role in the development, planning, commercial contracting and marketing of a number of UK and Norwegian gas fields and has negotiated many major gas sales, transportation and allocation agreements as well activities related to gas processing and natural gas liquids.  

He holds a PhD from University of Strathclyde, UK and a BSc (Hons) from University of Leicester, UK. In addition, he has completed key courses on International Gas (Exxon) at University of Arizona, Scottsdale USA and is a Graduate of Business Summer School, Oxford University UK.

Tony is a Senior Lecturer at the Energy Delta Institute in the Netherlands, a current and active Executive Advisory Board Member of European Autumn Gas Conference and is a past elected member of the European gas technical organization, EASEE-Gas.
