Liquefied Natural Gas

In addition to ‘traditional’ gas plant we are increasingly seeing the growth of LNG (liquefied natural gas) across the World and new infrastructure for both export and import is being built globally to cater for this. LNG is natural gas that has been chilled to a low temperature to become a liquid. This has major advantages for transportation and storage because of its high volume density and the fact that it can be handled as a liquid rather than in gaseous form.

Consultants at Holmwood Consulting Limited know the way that the elements of the LNG supply chain and the global markets operate. They are heavily involved with LNG awareness, client consulting, commercial trading developments and in-depth training courses around the world to help organisations learn from their know-how. The ability to monetize stranded natural gas by cost-effectively producing LNG and transporting it to high value markets has become an important part of the global energy supply and demand balance.

LNG is therefore emerging as an important and rapidly growing energy resource across the world and has particular criticality for N. E. Asia and the Atlantic Basin. It may now have come into the “main-stream” gas business but the global LNG market is still evolving and entering or operating in this new market is challenging, with increased contractual focus, new players, growing costs (again) and the initial signs of some linkage or price influences between the Atlantic and the Pacific.

Rising global natural gas prices, the expected boom in LNG demand, and a likely lag in available liquefaction capacity growth have combined to turn the LNG business from a buyers’ to a definite sellers’ market. Demand is forecast to at least double over the next ten years and to satisfy this need there will have to be substantial investment in all parts of the LNG supply chain, which may be represented in simplified from as:
